I want to buy a DVD player... What do I need?

I'm going to purchase a DVD player sometime soon... I don't have a clue what I need to look for... My receiver is a Nakamichi AV-8 if that matters. What features should I look for? I would like to use it for music cd's as well so I want a good-sounding/performing unit. Budget around $400.-500.. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your replies!
