I've emailed a couple of manufactures on this subject. The answer depends on the unit. For instance, this is one of the differences between the HK520 and the HK510. The 510 will degrade it and the 520 not, per the HK customer service. I imagine this will gradually move down do lower priced units over the next year or so,
