DDex, PLii, PLiiX

Here's my set-up:
Speakers are 7.1: 2 front, 1 center, 2 side & 2 rear surrounds, sub.
Receiver is a Denon 3803. It can do DD, DDex and Plii.
Source material is 5.1. Such as HBO over my Roku 4, or standard dvd, not Blu-ray.
I never thought the surround experience with DD or PLii on the Denon was very good. Cranking up the surround speakers helps, but the effects are not wow-inspiring. I have a chance to try out a Pioneer Elite that can do PLiiX. Would it be worth the expense and effort to try it, or would there not be much difference in the surround effects, given my set-up? I have no interest in what they do to 2-channel sources, since I almost always listen to stereo in stereo.
Thanks
