...Alfred Bester's Tiger,Tiger (aka The Stars My Destination) from 1956. This book (which posits "jaunting" as the technology of the future) set the scene for New Wave cinema and cyberpunk's William Gibson. And as it focuses on one central character, Gully Foyle, it's already cinematic.Whatever, the first chapter is one terrific read.

PS If one is interested in CGI, then David Lindsay's great, virtually unknown Voyage to Arcturus might be attempted.
Follow Ups:
There´s a lot of good stuff in it, without any need for Special Effects..., and actors could be allowed to play.But it won´t happen: no mass appeal.
