This I found to be an intriguing 2-hour film. It is a circus of characters comprised of Matt Dillion, Jimmy Caan, Stellan Skarsgaard, Gerard Depardieu, and beauty supplied by Natasha McElhone. Dillion feels the abrupt need to leave the U.S. after the company he was babysitting goes belly up and brings the FBI calling at his door. In order to track down his double-crossing partner (Caan) he lands in a Cambodia that offers the congeniality of a Twin Peaks and the supernatural air of an up-river Apocalypse Now.This film shows the really base, gritty Southeast Asia with its total lack of clean streets or fresh paint. (Brought back memories.) Well acted, good cinematography, and creative flashy editing moved the story along at a brisk pace. This is more like Bud Light and shades rather than Dom and monocles. Relax, try it.
Follow Ups:
a bit long though.
He was hilarious in There's Something About Mary and quietly great in the Drugstore Cowboy. I've wondered what became of him, but looks like he was writing a script and making a movie.
