either Gone With The Wind OR Lawrence Of Arabia...Anybody got any other ideas?
Follow Ups:
Anton Karas on that zither.
That one has got to be up there.
Interesting Tidbits: After the very first screening of "Breakfast at Tiffanys", the president of Paramount paced around the room, puffing on a cigar, and said, "Well, I'll tell you one thing, you can get rid of the song." Thankfully, Audrey was there and to her credit, she stood up and said, "Over my dead body."She was right indeed.

Almost 50 years later, it's still fresh and still defines "the" music of the Western. I think it even beats Copeland's attempts to capture a romaticized American West.I don't remember the "El Cid" score but coincidentally I was recently thinking about the film...no dvd yet.
A great theme and it's, well...*big*.

Got that one right.
But I think your choice is right on the money.
'Married to the Mob', 'Romeo + Juliet', and 'Natural Born Killers', but Aimee Mann's work on 'Magnolia' is tops in my book
I like alot of the Disney stuff too, but ironically, my favorite, 'Robin Hood', by Roger Miller has never been released... I wonder if Disney is holding out for a big release along with the movie on DVD??
... these are soundtracks and not 'score'... I do love the theme to one of my favorite films, 'Rob Roy', though I don't know the name
.
There are just too many great ones to narrow the field, so I'll include a link for folks to pick their own favorites; if I had to choose my 10 fave film scores by Herrmann, they would be Citizen Kane, The Devil and Daniel Webster, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Jason and the Argonauts, Mysterious Island, Journey to the Center of the Earth, North by Northwest, Psycho and Taxi Driver.

Can't really disagree with your nominations, but as an offbeat alternative, how about "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly?"
