  was trying to think of a film that has held up well from that era (when Klute really hasn't) and I indeed failed miserably...
  The Thomas Crown Affair (if I might be permitted another shot)
  which has a romantic interest with a dash of mystery works far better as a film and is more salvageable than Klute
