Sort of a "Unforgiven" with cows and a romance thrown in. Costner was much better than I was expecting. Duvall was good as usual. One really good thing - the sound effects. I watched it off my Dish Network receiver with surround sound etc (it was in Dolby Digital). The gunshots, splinters, and ricochets (and there plenty) sounded very good.
Follow Ups:
I agree. This movie was much better than I expected. It dealt with the same issues as Unforgiven, namely that killing is more serious business than simply loading the automatic weapon and blasting away. There is the romance, but I appreciated that while a movie formula would have used the romance to soften the killer and make him either doubt his mission, or make him fearful of death, the romance in Open Range does neither.
