I think the Bond series should go "realistic" or completely wacky. Not Austin Powers wacky just...odd. Next movie-Bond is killed within the first 2-5 minutes (as he should have been in every previous movie) and the rest of the movie is a shot of a sprawled body as the soundtrack continues. we do have alternate choices today like the jason bourne films and mission impossible films. harder edged stuff that plays up the intensity and hard edged persona of the spy character over the humor and playfulness. 007 is unusual as a tough guy that isn't rooted in the noir tradition of the alienated or isolated tough guy, and i think there's always a place for that kind of character.tarrentino in an interview on the charlie rose show long ago wanted to do casino royale where bond kills his own wife ... because that's the kind of cold blooded guy he his.
