In Reply to: I think Farenheit 911 is a great important movie, BUT would not posted by Duilawyer on October 16, 2004 at 09:44:39:
There are many reasons why this film can be taught in school - but you need to knwo what the teahcer has in mind - a topic around pop politics pop history versus textual analysis. What are the pros and cons of history and politics from film and televisions versus academic texts.Just giving this to watch and write something on to me is irrisponsible teaching - but if there is a bbigger point - it can be great. Lots of issues around propaganda here as well. And though I happen to agree with Moore in principle and it boggles my mind that Bush will likely get re-elected people are entitled to their opinion - no matter how stupid THEIR opinion is. :-)

a filter. They can read history of 911, the history of the Saudis and Bush, whatever. But Moore's film is both a documentary and propaganda. All documentary films are, some to a greater degree. I don't want their teacher deciding what poltical views my kids should have. That's my job (not).I can let them watch F911 at home. Anyway, I am saying the same thing here twice, so...
