A home schooled math whiz newcomer girl enlists the aid of two outcasts to topple the reign of three trend setting cliquish beautiful girls known in the high school as "The Plastics'. Along the way the newcomer also tries to woo a sexy hunk who used to date the head Plastic. Though not on a level with "Clueless" or even "Legally Blonde", this is an effective satire of southern Californian school life and has some good moments of humor. Worth a watch one time.
Follow Ups:
It is better than the synopsis would suggest. Lohan seems worlds away from the teen sex kitten that her handlers have created.
Lohan has a certain star quality in the film that I found charming and wasn't aware of before seeing the film. I'd only known her before from seeing her face on magazines at the supermarket. The film is also written with somewhat of an adult take on what's humorous about the high school experience (a bit like Fast Times on Ridgemount High or the Freaks & Geeks tv series). Like the observation made in the voice-over that Holloween is the one day of the year when girls can dress up as sluts, and no one can say anything about it.
The humor is very much Tina Fey, the SNL Weekend Update woman, who did the screenplay. The funniest moment for me was the Kevin G rap (he's both a Mathlete and a "Bad-Ass M.C.") at the winter talent show.
