This is a simple 'coming of age' in the new millenium movie.
Yes, it satirizes contemporary american culture, but it is just a movie about some kids coming to grips with who they are and what they are about.

I find the differences in dialogue and character portrayal of the protaganists compared to the others. Just the opposite of what one would expect...but it reminds me of Hal Hartley, who is one of my favorites.

I found it quite entertaining and everyone I have talked to liked it as well.
