First one was Kansas City Confidential - quite an enjoyable crime caper from 1952.But the second, a much better known Thomas Crown Affair - a huge bore. I love McQueen, but I quickly lost the desire to watch it.
Follow Ups:
I also watched the Thomas Crown Affair on cable that night. I think it is a classic case of style over substance. At that time I think the injection of 60's sexual revolution subculture aesthetic sensibilities probably seemed like inovative film making. In technique and artistic style it most likely was. In the long run inovative technique and style become cliche once copied by others and then old fashioned as new techniques and styles are explored leaving nothing but content sustain interest. There in lies the failure of this movie. Niether the characters nor the plot are interesting.
