Loved your list but allow me to add five more films to it:
Hell's Angels '69 (1969)The "Ocean's Eleven" of biker films, as the actual members of the Oakland chapter of the Hell's Angels hit the Vegas strip with a couple of thrill seekers using them as cover for a daring robbery. Sonny Barger and Terry the Tramp in supporting roles. A late Sixties existentialist ending, too.
C. C. and Company (1970)
Joe Namath. Ann Margaret. Choppers galore. If you gasped at the scene in "Straw Dogs" where Susan George kisses one of her attackers, you'll recognize its predecessor here when "Stockholm Syndrome" victim Ann Margaret cozies up to Broadway Joe!
Born Losers (1967)
The first Billy Jack film has a biker gang terrorizing the families of a group of girls who went riding with them and discovered the road to drugs and rape! Billy Jack is there to help the one girl who decides to testify against them.
Werewolves on Wheels (1971)
Even if you are in a biker gang, you don't interrupt a satanic ceremony! One of the bikers has been turned into a werewolf, but which one? A real casting coup here, with Barry ("Eve of Destruction") in this one!
Rebel Rousers (1969)
A group of bikers hold a drag race to decide who gets to claim a pregnant woman. Yes...a PREGNANT woman! Incredible cast list includes Bruce Dern, Harry Dean Stanton, Diane Ladd, and Jack Nicholson (dig those crazy pants!). Shot in '67 but not released until after "Easy Rider" was a hit. That should tell you just how great this one is!
Follow Ups:
Thanks for additions Gee LP. I was going to add "The Born Losers"
as I recalled it late. Add "On Any Sunday"-1971, a motorcycling
fun film with Steve McQueen (remember his bike escapade in "The
Great Escape"?)and pop film score by Dominic Frontiere; followed by 1981 sequel with Bruce Penhall. Will have to check out "Rebel Rousers", quite a lineup. Yes, I
recall Barry McGuire, former green beret I believe.Notes: "Motorcycle Gang"-1957 features Carl "Alfalfa" Switzer.
Laslo Kovacs' cinematography in several biker films, most notable
in "Easy Rider". Next time you watch that film, dig the 360 degree
pan of the various and sundry hippy commune inhabitants-visitors
during opening prayer! Putt...putt...putt... ~AH
Liked your additions to the list...I stayed within the boundaries of biker gang/chopper films...but I am interested in the earlier motorcycle films...pre-1965. The one with "Alfafa" sounds like a must-see! Thanks for your original post and your follow-up! It was a lot of fun to make my additions to your list.
