I thought the movie was creepy. It had some good 'jump out of your seat' moments. I thought they could have done a better job with the fight scene at the end. I sat near the front so I heard allot of fright from people behind me. It’ll be a while before I feel comfortable looking at a snowy screen. I ‘d love to see this done in Japan, and see a Japanese version. I've gained allot of respect for their artistic ability to make things doubly creepy. I like films like this because it dives into the realm of possibility. Also, I heard they actually used real ghostly audio from tapes and added it to the movie. How bout some salt with them grits!
Follow Ups:
My audience was a numb as I was. You're right, this seems like a Japanese theme for a horror flick and I certainly agree with you on that. The last fight particularly irritated me. It seems that so many movies are marred by some pretentous, poorly done battle with the supernatural or spirit world. It always seems to go silly. A few good examples are Arnold's battle with the devil in the church (End of Days), Keanu's battle with the devil (Devil's Advocate), and Jeff Goldblum witnessing a battle between good and evil (Hideaway). Each of these movies stood well on their legs until someone decided an animated climax would be spectacular--each ending laughable.
