Unlike your reaction (of Duilawyer), I found Hero very interesting and compelling. I thought that the visuals were astounding and the use of color extremely involving as the story unfolded. The point about dying versus living for principles and how it guided Qin's decision as a ruler was fascinating (if, perhaps a bit overdone). Given the significance of Qin's rule and success at unifying China at that period, I thought this movie was very good at capturing this tension. The director pushed the stylistic approach to the kung-fu and grand epic genre in my view.
I suppose this is much like many of these postings under "film" -- it is all people's opinions and reactions. As for me, I'm getting Flying Daggers as soon as I can.
Follow Ups:
and I liked the way it was told from three different viewpoints and the wise old emperor didn't buy any of it.After all these are FANTASY films afterall. Was SpidermanII real? Yet no one here seems to be critical of suspending belief on that one!
Music is Emotion
HOFD isn't quite up to Hero standards, but its quite enjoyable nonetheless.
