Misery the pig plays herself in this Rob Reiner directed film of a Stephen King tale of a romance novel writer imprisoned by a mad fan after an auto accident. Kathy Bates is multi-dimensional in her portrayal of the crazed nurse and James Caan is wonderfully cast as the writer. The fight at the end is terrifying. Larren Bacall and the late Richard Farnsworth also star as the writer's agent and the local sheriff. Mostly filmed on location in Nevada.
Follow Ups:
Caan is usually the heavy. Rare to seem him be the victim. Good suspense.
he claimed the role he had most identified with was as the tough guy in Michael Mann's "Violent Streets" aka "Thief"
Filmed in Chicago, which is where Caan was originally from
It's a great action film tho' "very 1980's" looking now
The soundtrack by Tangerine Dream was quite something back then too
I always thought "Misery" was, well, a bit miserable....
