"Bringing out the Dead". I watched this at at the theater and the film broke with 45 minutes left. The manager told us how it ended (which was predictable) and gave us free passes to another show.
I heard BOTD was his first effort at digital editing. This doesn't excuse the poor story and dull characters.
IMHO "Mean Streets" is his masterpiece. I do hope he still has some tricks up his sleeve

I was engrossed in the characters too. The visuals didn't distract me and seemed to add a certain tone. as I recall it might have made my lst of the ten best movies the year it came out...which does not necessarily mean much since out of the 1200 or so movies I've seen I've given 7-9 or so an A+.
