It left a lot unsaid. The couple reunited, but very tentatively if I recall correctly. The Man still had no remembrance of the lady. Hollywood would have had a double take by the man, then a realization that his lost love had found him, the music would build, they would have embraced, kiss, musical crescendo, some tender words, fade out.....This was one of the reasons I really liked this movie, not the normal Hollywood ending. Much more melancholy

No, the end is just the beginning of a new love story. Who cares when one end as long one start.I should have wrote " the new Hollywood ending "....
