I, too am a big fan of 'The Thin Red Line' and frankly, I'm tired of the flack it receives. It is a far more contemplative study of human behavior than the film it shared a similiar release date with, and unfairly compared too, 'Saving Private Ryan'. The cinematography is approaches that of Stanley Kubrick, I can't think of a higher compliment.I found this film to be so intense that at one point, Ihad to excuse myself and go to the lobby of the theatre because I was nearly hyperventilating. Elias Koteas, John Savage, Nick Nolte, and Jim Caviezel all turn in career performances. It's still a challenging film to watch, you just cannot say the same thing about 'Saving Private Ryan'.
Like the poster below, 'Badlands' is also a brilliant film and Martin Sheen's best performance to date. I felt Sheen's character was minimized in 'Apocalypse Now' by the over the top performances turned in from Duvall, Brando, and Hopper and the sheer scope of Coppola's vision.
