Mickey Rooney and Eddie Albert (where's Ernie Borgnine?) should tell you to make sure to watch in a room with opened windows.
Beatty's performance in PV was superb, as was the story. I guess you don't care for The Manchurian Candidate, either?
The film, after all, isn't a political essay charging Sirhan Sirhan with conspiring with American pols to assassinate the Pres. It's fiction, based on some truth, and, as such, gripping.
Sorry you weren't thrilled. Many consider it a classic, a view I share. Three Days of the Condor is a similarly excellent political thriller which has also aged very well.

Maybe I'm just, unfortunately, more cynical these days.
I also liked The China Syndrome, despite it's naivity.
