In Reply to: I simply can't believe how good Cate Blanchett is in The Shipping News posted by Victor Khomenko on September 7, 2005 at 20:01:25:
That paltrow -- she is in a new film Proof with Sir Anthony Hopkins...and a few critics I've read have said she puts herself right in this movie -- Ie her performance in proof is academy award worthy and she won;t like win -- The Oscars are a series of political moves -- they owe someone an academy award. You;ll see Blanchett get one in one of her weaker roles sometime down the line. She kept the Aviator airborne with her Katheran Hepburn performance.
She's been fantastic since her first notewirthy movie -- Oscar and Lucinda. And she kept the uneven Elizabeth watchable -- too bad the film was so crappy compared to the vastly superior BBC production. And Glenda Jackson was untouchable -- not even Cate.
Follow Ups:
She's wonderful in Ken Russels "The Music Lovers" and "Salomes Last Dance" which also stars the inimitable Stratford Johns... I agree that her BBC role as "Elizabeth R" is untouchable; a series that was made at a pressure cooker pace on a shoe string budget
