I've seen "Tokyo Story" on VHS and the PQ is marginal at best. I'm thinking about getting it on DVD. How good is the Criterion restoration? I've heard the original master was destroyed in a fire. Is the DVD not a whole lot better than VHS? Thanks!
Follow Ups:
I got the Criterion DVD after reading about it here. My copy seems very clean and clear, but I'm not an expert nor have I viewed the VHS copy.
IMO this is one of the very best movies I have ever seen. Thank you to the members who listed it.
Not having seen the VHS I can't comment on the difference but I found the DVD picture quality to be just fine.
