the first and probably the best example of a modern musical where the musical score furthers the dramatic elements of the story. The film features Academy award winning performances by Liza Minnelli and Joel Grey and Bob Fosse for directing. This opening number sets the tone for this dark look at pre-Nazi Germany and the changing political climate along with the decadence and self-indulgence of the 1930's... Fosse here was a genius to be sure....
Follow Ups:
Grey really had to go to a special place to pull out his character. Surely, he was the most entertaining part of the film.
