That makes sense, insider subgroups are a common power device.
Back in the sixties, I was walking along , lost in teen aged thoughts, when this pretty girl offered a ride, which turned into going to a meeting at a house. I later came to believe this was a recruiting activity called flirty fishing, although I never solidly identified the group.
Me being me, I questioned the theology they presented after about the third sentence, until it was obvious they were nuts. I figured I wasn't getting laid when I saw it was a gathering of like minded thinkers, and I wasn't looking for life instructions, although I was told we were going to a church meeting. I didn't spend a lot of time getting out of there, but the argument was fun while it lasted.
While I am on the subject, I also disagreed with a scientology interviewer , also a very pretty female. She slammed her notebook shut and said this interview could continue when I was serious.
The crazy thing was that every year, for ten years, a two paged hand written letter was sent to my parents house, asking how things were going, stuff one would expect. I was working internationally and the letters caused my mother to worry, she asked if there was anything I wanted to tell her, she was afraid I had joined a cult. My mothers concern was kind of cute, considering the son she had raised, but I didn't like those nuts stressing my mother.
As you might know both manson and elron had studied some physiology for ways to exploit people in need.
