We too felt it was a bit too long.
(As much as I liked the kids in the first movie, we both felt that their presence in the second movie was a bit over done. We felt that they should have merely had them to introduce their adult counterparts, just once, and then hand it off to the adult versions for the rest of the film.)
Also, it was not nearly as scary as the first movie.
In fact, it was not scary at all to myself.
(But then again, I am a horror movie aficionado, so maybe I am not the best judge of what is "normal" scary.)
And, the first scene was too derivative of the first movie, which kind of annoyed me to be honest.
Follow Ups:
It was pretty much a "creature feature". There seems to be an obsession with spiders in films like these. I guess test audiences tested well for arachnophobia.
