High lonesome, the story of bluegrass music , is the full title.
I thought I might post it up as a recommendation after entering a conversation about country music in the vinyl section.
I have it on a DVD , from 1997 , on the back in small letters it says from shanachie videos, newton nj.
It tells the history of bluegrass music, using Bill monroe as the central element to tie it all together. It is pretty much about him, which is a good choice. It has a lot of performances, used as elements to flesh out the story. It won some film festival awards, according to the front cover.
Poverty and the republican depression are a small part of the story, which adds some interest in the context of todays widespread financial insecurity.
The new York times called it "a fascinating bit of Americana". I also dug it. .
