He grew up in Edinburgh and did time in the Royal Navy. Connery lived a common life before the roles came. He was quoted once as saying, I've been poor before, and would rather not be again.

I always have a soft spot for Scotland and everything attached. He always loved Scotland. Never a bad word about it.

Many great roles; the Bond thing was always his shadow.
