I saw the name of the director and had to check...yes this is David Cronenberg's son. Since I am a pretty huge fan of elder Cronenberg, I had to check this out.
The apple has not fallen far from the tree. This is stylish, gory, with plenty of interesting ideas and a great visual sense.
The plot (and this is not a spoiler as it is revealed in the first few minutes) concerns a business where the killer takes over the body of a person close to the victim to perform a hit. So they become the possessor to murder someone, then commit suicide and return back to their own body.
It's not a completely perfected technology apparently. It gets messy.
There are lots of clever ideas here, including a look at a data mining assembly line. The acting is fine. If it does not add up to a masterpiece and feels somewhat minor, it is, after all, his first movie. I look forward to more from him.
Follow Ups:
hadn't fallen from the tree at all. I thought Sean Bean was rather good for being out of place from his usual "historical" roles. Not for everybody but a good transfusion for Goth moviegoers.
