We watched The Big Country last night. Its a pretty good western, great acting, we enjoyed it.
Seems the title is a take off from the "Big Sky Country" moniker for Montana. But it was filmed in southern California, no mountains in the film, the scenery looks like mid west Nebraska to me.
Follow Ups:
One thing that I loved about Gregory Peck is that he always chose his roles to have a "morality' about them through-out his career. He was a great humanitarian to be sure. He and Simmons made a great pairing, it's a shame they never worked together again. It's also regrettable that Carroll Baker's career kind of fizzled out in her later years, I thought she was quite beautiful and talented. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is STILL my favorite western, but The Big Country comes damn close!
