Not a bad little show - it's not like the film and the characters are mostly amalgamations of historical figures.
The show is less about baseball and more about the lives and experiences of women at that time.
Here their plights were sugar-coated to a large degree to keep the show somewhat more upbeat as the movie. For example; one woman was caught in a gay bar and traded to another team but in real life, she was barred from playing.
Still, it was entertaining enough with likeable characters (enough) that I would give a second season a go.
***1/2 / *****
Note: Conservatives will hate it because it deals with black people (black women) not being allowed to play and lesbians hiding their sexuality in a league that didn't tolerate them. The lead characters are Lesbians - also transgender characters. This will have you guys in a rage - so thought you would need the warning.
Follow Ups:
Like the discovery of a secret gay bar at a theatre playing Wizard of Oz. It says everything. Small town girl lands in a magical place...
