We saw it two days ago. Overall I would not rate it very highly... I thought everything was said in the first thirty minutes.
Agree on Aurore Clément acting... and she went on to make 101 movie after this her first one! I guess camera and viewers loved her. Easy to see why.

Yesterday I re-looked at " 80 days around the World " Mike Todds opus...Lot of actors in cameo that I really loved, like Charles Coburn, but the film, but the film....
of Lucien and the girl was fascinating, horrifying, and sickening.
The father gave one of the best performances I can remember. What an impossible role! He brought it off perfectly: wise, sad, resigned, angry, courageous... all emotions conveyed with his eyes. Brilliant. A tour de force!
