Saw this last night. A Canadian picture directed by Sarah Polley and exe-produced by Atom Egoyan. Plays like a small Egoyan movie. Moves back and forth in time while the watcher gets exposed little by little to what is going on.
Julie Christie is Fiona, a very beautiful lady who is dipping into Alzheimer's Disease and starting to disappear. Her husband Grant, played by Gordan Pinsent, is trying to handle it. They live in a very beautiful locale in Canada. Fiona wants to go to an assisted living/nursing home and Grant does not want to go. Using this set up and the deterioration of Fiona, the relationship of Grant and Fiona are explored.
Acting is excellent. The movie is very good but limps to the ending not really knowing where to go. The Alzheimer's Disease is dealt with in a matter of fact way but (given my personal and professional experience with it) in a somewhat sterilized manner.
Recommended film.
