You know, I'm not a Micheal Bay fan in the least... in fact along with Brett Ratner he may be my least favorite big time director.
That said, I still went to see this movie (based on positive reviews from reviewers I trust) and you know what? It was the most mindless fun I've had at the movies in a long time.
Sure it makes you groan at the stupidity of much of the dialogue (and at Bay's half hearted attempts to make people seem like something resembling... well... people) but at it's heart it's a rousing action movie that's incredibly well put together and it very much maximizes the wow factor.
Plus frankly, as someone fascinated with such things (while remaining horrified at how we usually choose to use it), it's a cool as shit look - however exaggerated and stylized - at our military machine.
What can I say? It was a rousingly good, good time.Don't piss on my shoe and tell me it's raining.
Follow Ups:
Although good acting skills (and along with that good directing, editing, etc I'm sure) potentially make a movie enjoyable, if the movie is boring, it's just that. I couldn't watch Driving Miss Daisy without poking my eyes out because it bored me to death. Good acting? Who cares at that point (not me obviously)?
I'll definately rent transformers when it comes out (yes, I'll admit it also). Will I like it for mindless fun (?); probably. Will I invite some nephews and nieces over to have an excuse to watch it, maybe (but probably not, I've watched worse I'm sure)... hehe.
Would I rent it more than once or consider buying it, not likely.
Thanks for the honest review.
Never heard of either director you mentioned, but then I don't pay that much attention to names TBH.
or get serious with serious movies.
I'll never own something like Transformers but I may well rent it and see it again one day
The nice thing is that something is always available that fits the mood.
Don't piss on my shoe and tell me it's raining.
