Gets off to a rather slow start, but your patience is rewarded with a very satisfying film that sneaks up on you. Good acting; though I wouldn't have cast Ed Norton; great S. Maugham story, lush camera, excellent score.
When you're circling the drain, it doesn't really matter whether you're spinning to the left or the right.
Follow Ups:
I too loved the movie. I thought Norton was well cast.....who would you have cast instead?
I would have cast one of the young Brit dramatic actors having more screen presence. Maybe Clive Owen. Ed Norton played it well enough, but kind of faded into the scenery.
