When he was but a small child and had traded his brother his tin soldiers for the brothers newly received Cinematograph.
He described loading the film strip and then...
"A picture of a meadow appeared on the wall. Asleep in the meadow was a young woman apparently wearing national costume. Then I turned the handle! It is impossible to describe this. I can't find word to express my excitement. But at any time I can recall the smell of the hot metal, the scent of mothballs and dust in the wardrobe, the feel of the crank against my hand. I can see the trembling rectangle on the wall.
I turned the handle and the girl woke up, sat up, slowly got up, stretched her arms out, swung round and disappeared to the riht. If I went on turning, she would again lie there, then make exactly the same movements all over again.
She was moving. ""You can safely assume you have created God in your own image when he hates all the same people you do."
Follow Ups:
Wonderful and later his love with the Lanterna and his parent who was changing the rule and adding features.
He was a real movie maker.
And a theater man, who put- la flute enchantée on celluloid.
It was part of the very essence of his being.
That he was also a world class theater director does not diminish him as a film-maker in any way... it only adds to his overall greatness (Tin knows this he was just trying to be provacative... Auph may really believe what he wrote though).
