I now remember him. He reminds me somewhat of Klaus Kinski, both physically and in intensity.

You mean Banionis, the lead actor in Solaris.

But the actor who played King Lear was J�ri J�rvet, who also played very well Dr. Snout in Solaris.

Bondarchuk is the one who played Pierre in W&P. he also directed the Waterloo, with Rod Steiger as Napoleon - another strong recommendation (Patrick did not like it... bummer!).
