This movie is way better than it has any right to be. From the guys who brought you the mediocre and at times gloomy Garfield movies, this one somehow hits its mark.
The CGI animations of Alvin, Simon, and Theodore are utterly charming. And the movie has a real story to tell about how David Seville and the Chipmunks found each other. And the Chipmunk voices are "dead on."
Most importantly, for a "baby boomer" who was 11 when the first Chipmunk tunes hit the radio waves in 1959, the new "covers" by the CGI-generated Chipmunks on these now-famous "standards" did not insult my sensibilities, even if there was some minor updating with some rap-like scenes and cell phones appear that we didn't have in 1959. To be sure, this is a modern movie set in 2007 not 1959, but still a great way for any baby boomer to spend a Saturday afternoon. The little kids in the audience seemed to love the permanently "wired" Chipmunks just as much as we all did in back in 1959.

...I've been postponing it after reading the critic reviews. Thanks!
