I wish I had not seen the previews for this. Some of the really good lines are in the previews. It would have been better to see these cold.
At any rate, this starts light. Two hitmen are in Bruges, Belgium's old city. One of them is enchanted, the younger one is bored to tears. They are awaiting instructions from the London boss. Meanwhile, they mess around, they meet a dwarf actor (guy from the Station Agent), young guy meets a woman, they fight, they party. This is more character driven than plot. Their characters do emerge. The call from London comes and things get considerably darker. The tone at the end of this movie does not really match that at the beginning.
The 3 tough guys give persuasive performances. The dialogue is well written. The city of Bruges is gorgeous and shot beautifully. And I especially appreciated the music, from Townes van Zandt to Schubert to the Dubliners.
