good film-- the poorest I've seen in my recent noir excursion-- but worth it TO ME to see Dan Duryea (I thought miscast) excellently play the piano--- and moreso for the two stunning blonde female stars, June Vincent and Constance Dowling. Wow!
Duryea plays a guy who's a successful song-writer/pianist with his torch-song singing wife. He also has a strong elbow problem.
One evening, his wife is murdered but he's in the clear: they had earlier broken up and, to keep him from binging, his landlord locked him into his boarding room, every night.
A straying married guy, who had been having an affair with the deceased, is arrested and sentenced to die. This is one of those ticking clock films: will the unlikely, wronged pair of Duryea and the wife find the true murderer?
There are several torch songs which I suppose I could have done without but it's an interesting spectacle to see what folks in the 40s considered fine, sophisticated entertainment.
