This may be one of those films we just agree to disagree upon. I really found it exceptional, even though I too had reservations about Duris' appearance, demeanor.
SPOILER:
The cuckolded husband, so well played, in less skillful hands would just have been lampooned; he is a staple of comedy since Chaucer or Boccaccio. It is Tigard (and Moliere's) genius to make him a complex character, to wed intense feeling and pathos (here the skill is maginficent) to what originally appeared as a shallow, vapid, and vain peacock. The actor deserves an Oscar.
