At the website Roger has a farewell statement and I think it poignant that the statement is headed by a picture of himself with Gene Siskel. In a way I don't think Roger ever recovered from the death of Gene.

I thought he had a lot of fun interviewing replacements by letting them try to fill Gene's seat.
After Roeper started I emailed him about what I thought was a poor choice. He sent me back a nice response asking me to give Roeper time.
I don't think the show ever recovered from Gene's death.
