disappointing.
Overly convoluted, too many characters, zero suspense. And, equally disturbing, Francois Cluzet, the lead, bears an alarming likeness to.... Dustin Hoffman. The hair, the space between the front teeth, the mannerisms: all perfect.
But the film, as I stated, has many serious faults. In the end, with good and bad equally murderous, where was the contrast to evil?
Lesbians, gang memebers, child rapists, cynical and amoral upper-classes (is there any other to mainstream cinema?), corrupt police--- this film touches all the bases, my friends!
Still, a good way to spend a few hours--- just don't expect Hitch or even Chabrol and you'll be fine.
Follow Ups:
At first, my wife and I were enjoying it and "going along for the ride." I like the lead actor being "on the lamb" running from the police.
But the movie gradually lost credibility (somewhere in the middle or slightly thereafter?), and it completely lost all credibility with the convoluted and implausible ending.
woman and that creepy sidekick of hers were the most interesting characters (along with the old cop with the cheerful mom) and when they tossed her aside and forgot about the two guys, the picture really lost me.
She, especially, was an interesting character.
