Charming old fashioned comedy reminiscent of Topper and the old screwball comedies. Nothing new here, rather a predictable plot arc. But Ricky Gervais is dependably funny as a wise-cracking curmudgeon- not as damaged as his role on the Office, but damaged enough to still entertain. With Gervais as the crux and Greg Kinnear as his ghostly companion (who maybe should have had less screen time)- it all goes down quite pleasantly. And like any good traditional romantic comedy, goes for some emotional punch as well as some laughs. This is quite a nice change from the summer comic book movies.

...of comic timing. He carried the movie, with good support from everyone - costars Kinnear and Leoni as well as even the small roles (his dentist suite neighbor frex).

I'm not necessecarily a Koepp fan, but this was light and intelligent and well done. Doesn't break new ground but treads the fmailiar tropes quite agilely.

AN entertaining two hours.
