After watching all the fall's trailers of truly mindless CIA/FBI genre thrillers, BAR seemed downright intellectual in the way it relegated federal espionage to the realm of domestic discontent. I don't think the Coens could produce a mindless film if they tried.

  These guys are masters and this film was so well woven with intellect/pseudo-intellect/stupidity and most of all self deception, that it was just great fun to watch as the tale unfolded.
  
  The pacing of it kind of reminds me of Chaplin's early works, and as always it is a nod to the film industry.
