In Reply to: RE: Egghead question: How much does the bulb for the DLP movie theatre ..... posted by mr grits on October 12, 2008 at 17:12:34
The projectors for a movie theater sized space run upwards of $20,000 but many of these dont give a brightness equivalent to film...my guess is you are looking at $50,000 on up for comparable brightness.
On these you are probably looking at a $3000 bulb, minimum. My local theater runs a DLP series of ads and previews prior to running film, which is considerably brighter than the digital projection.
At home you can nicely fill a 100 inch screen with an $800 projector at 720p, tho 1080p still runs over $2000.
Bulbs for these run $200-400 and last 2000 hours or so.
further info check out www.projectorcentral.com which looks into some commercial grade units as well as the HT stuff.

So you say the DLP is brighter--I presume this is the "digital" media where as a few screens are conventional.
The DLP screens are pretty bright but aren't in the largest auditoriums.
