I found it very worthwhile. First of all, the movie is mainly directed at atheists and agnostics. There very point of the movie is that religious people can't be reasoned with and reject logic which is demonstrated over and over again. It is more of a call to agnostics and atheists to speak up and to stop coddling the religious agenda. Bill Maher walks into various religious strongholds (be they the Vatican, a museum for creationism or a truckstop church) and asks questions which are logical but that religious people cannot answer. From a book I love, people question everything except what they believe in. I learned just a bit about some facts, scripture matters and previous deities whose background stories are a bit too familiar.
Will religious people like this movie? Absolutely not. Will agnostics and atheists like this movie? Probably yes and may feel energized and upset that (for Americans, at least) our politics are completely injected with superstitious nonsense.
Follow Ups:
Roger Ebert is a strong catholic and liked the film quite a lot.
I can't see Religulous where I am located but "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins should convert those who border the religions or who are self described agnostics to become full out Atheists. Coddling religion is like coddling an arsonist. they may not always start the fire but if there is a fire they'll throw a big pile of gas on it.
The argument is that there are good people who do good things, bad people who do bad things - but for otherwise good people to evil things - that takes religion.
Dawkins is less antagonistic than Maher (and less funny) but he does have science to back up what he says - and notes that evolution is a "fact" not a theory. Darwins "theory of evolution by natural selection" is a "theory" (which is as provable to the same degree as the "theory of gravity" but evolution itself is without doubt a fact. The alternative creationism beliefs have zero evidence, and even less logic. But who needs facts and logic when you have faith. Some pedophile telling you there is a God when you are three and parents pounding that drivel into your head for 20 years and other flock members telling you the same and some money stealing liar on TV and radio belting it into their heads for decades. It's awfully difficult to fight prolonged systemic brainwashing of that degree. The German youth joined the Nazi Youth party in droves hating Jews for zero reason except for what government and parents told them. These people are in many ways blameless. Luckily there are a few who do eventually escape the brainwashing.
