I really like the beginning of this film, the way the town "goes to sleep" if you will. The tractor, the record player, the bus, the bike and so on. George Saunders is always cool. I know this is a stereotyping by me but the Brits seem to be able to more "legitimize" a somewhat hokie story by their "manner". It is worth watching.

"Village" has old-school chills down pat; as you said, the reserved 'Britishness' of the approach just makes it better. It's been years since I saw it and as soon as I saw you mentioning it, I thought of the brick wall....
Directed by Wolf Rilla, who, as far as I know, is utterly forgotten otherwise, but if you have to be remembered for one film, this is not the worst you could do. I want to re-see it again.

An excellent 1b film.
