The combo of Hutton and Bracken was comparable to scraping fingernails on a blackboard, but the film itself is well acted and produced. Betty Hutton's character (Miss Kockenlocker) was meant to stupify everyone who came into contact with her, and Eddie Bracken was the perfect fool. I wish Sturges had cast someone who was more loveable and comedically talented than Bracken. I think the weakest film Sturges directed was Mad Wednesday with Harold LLoyd (a talkie). He only directed 13 films, half of them superb. He set the bar very high for himself, so anything less than a classic could be considered a disappointment.
Follow Ups:
Well acted and well produced.
No.
I donīt think that actors whose acting are like FOABoard, are good actors...
This film goes no where not even on the slapstick side.
The end is like a brutal curtain where every one is happy to have made it...
A real torture for the spectator.
Some dialog particularly in the first third are brillant.
But the acting, boy the acting and the rest..
