Edward Norton? OK, neither of these guys would have the sheer menace of Vic, but they would be a helluva lot more nuanced, and just as duplicitous....
I mean, Chicklis is so simply *bloody awful* it's like a sock puppet or cardboard cutout is popping up whenever he appears; his facial expression is set like a plaster cast, he doesn't so much walk as hobble like a crippled duck across the screen When most of the cameo performances on "Shield" + 90% of the supporting cast are really, really Top Shelf ( I'm sure this series has revived a few careers + will "make" many others )
And the woman that plays Vics (ex) Wife is laughably bad... ( Oh, she's related to Shawn Ryan, so no screen test ? ....)
I mean, this is a GREAT, GREAT show, except for muppet Vic + his can't-act-to-save-herself wife...
Sorry for the rant, just pissed the lead in this show chews up so much screen time

However, looks like yer enjoying the show on your own terms. Don't expect a makeover of Chiklis's acting technique, it is what it is. IMHO, he owns the Vic Mackie character and regardless of the others' perceived acting talents, it's just another run of the mill show without Chiklis/Vic. I think you'll really enjoy Forest Whitaker in Season 5 if acting talent is yer thing. He was, in a word, awesome, and chewed up as much, if not more, scenery than Chiklis..
"Poor People have been voting for Democrats for the last 50 years.......and they are still poor."
So sayeth Charles Barkley
comes to mind; yes, he would fit right in there
OK, you've twisted my arm to finish the series; but I'll stick to my guns, the Shield is good in spite of Chiklis, but not because of him
